Billy Goat LR500 Overview

Have a piece of Billy Goat walk behind equipment that you need to move? Hate having to maneuver trailers and push big equipment up steep ramps into the bed of a truck? Billy Goat has your solution: the LR 500. This loading ramp turns your vehicle’s trailer hitch into a floating platform that you can use with ease.

How Does it Work?

The LR 500 has two no-slip ramps that pull out of the right side of the platform and rest on the ground. Once lowered, the equipment can be wheeled up onto the platform and tied down. These ramps are designed to work at a range of angles, so the height of your vehicle’s hitch and the height of the ground doesn’t matter: it can work just as well on a 4×4 pickup next to pavement as it will on a minivan next to a hill. Once the equipment is loaded, the ramps slide back into the platform, locking into place for transport.

How Do I Install the LR 500?

Simply slide the tongue into the hitch, insert the locking pin, and slide the ramps into place. The LR 500 is made out of aluminum to keep down weight, which means the entire unit tips the scales at just 70 lbs. That weight can be further reduced by temporarily detaching the ramps from the platform, so you don’t have to lift the full weight of the unit up to get it into your vehicle’s hitch.

What Can Fit on This Loading Ramp?

Mowers, blowers, vacuums, power rakes, sod cutters, aerators, overseeders, brushcutters – any equipment you have that has wheels and is small enough for the operator to walk behind or push to operate will probably fit on the LR 500.

The platform uses two rails that slide on the hitch tongue, letting you move them into position to match the track of your equipment. Maximum spacing is 35 inches (89 centimeters,) while the rails can accommodate lawn care devices with a wheelbase up to 46 inches (116.8 centimeters) long. It can hold up to 500 lbs. (227 kg,) so it can handle all but the biggest Billy Goat equipment.

What Vehicles Can Use the LR 500?

This platform is designed to work with any two-inch receiver hitch: it slides into the receiver itself where you’d normally fit the trailer ball mount. This size of receiver is found on Class III and Class IV hitches found on trucks, SUVs and minivans. Due to its design and weight requirements, it won’t work with Class I and II hitches fitted with a 1.25 inch to 2 inch adapter.
